Executive Summary
Shire (now part of Takeda) built a 100-acre greenfield campus in Covington, Georgia. The campus includes over one million square feet of building space, including a wastewater treatment facility, manufacturing buildings, laboratory buildings, administrative buildings and a central utility building. The campus separates plasma components, purifies them and makes life-sustaining therapies used to treat burn victims and patients with immune disorders, hemophilia and other medical conditions.
Fluor completed construction management services for the campus, located about 45 miles east of Atlanta. We supported Shire's goal of completing the campus to start manufacturing products. Our proven construction management expertise was central to the program's success as our full suite of project tools was utilized. An excellent example of new innovations implemented at the site was Fluor Site ConnectSM, which takes proven work processes and develops workflows using tablet technology.

Shire had an aggressive goal to complete the campus and start manufacturing products. Patients from around the world will benefit from Shire's products now that the facility is complete.

Our industry leadership and proven construction management services on fast-track life sciences projects were key to the project's success. The Fluor site team partnered with our Construction Technical Services Group to help implement Fluor Site Connect to benefit the project.
Conclusion
During the initial phase of construction, the team implemented a fully automated concrete pour card work process. Real-time pour card data increased field productivity and simplified status reporting.
Program Covington was presented the 2015 Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CISE) Award for projects 12 months or more in duration. The honor was given during the organization's Nov. 10, 2015 gala in Houston, Texas. The award program was established to recognize commendable safety management and safety improvements of owners, constructors and Local User Councils.
In 2016, the National Safety Council recognized the Shire project with the Million Work Hours Award for exceptional safety performance.
